TIRUCHI: Finishing touches are being given at a brisk pace to the office of the Commissioner of Police constructed at Subramaniapuram here at a cost of Rs. 3 crore under Modernisation of Police Force Scheme. The approach road would be readied within a fortnight, well in time before Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s Tiruchi visit on March 3 for the launch of ‘Kalaignar Housing Scheme’, official sources said. DelayWorks on the 30,000-sq feet building on a plot area of 8,460 square metres commenced on July 14, 2007 and was slated for completion by October 31, 2009. However, it got delayed due to interruptions in the tender process caused by elections in the initial months of last year and unfavourable monsoons during the latter part, sources added. The project was taken up by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation. The Commissioner’s chamber is on the first floor. The spacious complex will also house the offices of the Deputy Commissioner of Police – Law and Order; DC – Headquarters; Assistant Commissioner – Intelligence Section; AC – Security, and AC – City Crimes Record Bureau. A guard room, spacious conference hall, BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad) , Anti-vice squad, finger print photo section, record room, creche, and library are also to function from the complex that will be equipped with an emergency generator set.
