VELLORE: Two workers of the Ambur Tannery Effluent Treatment Company in A. Kasba, Ambur, were asphyxiated by a sudden gush of toxic gas when one of them opened an effluent tank at the company on Monday night. According to the police, P. Manoharan (40), one of the workers climbed on to the top of the tank and opened the lid. He swooned and fell into the tank containing effluents up to two feet. On realising his colleague had fallen in, S. Nedunchezhian (42) went up to check. He too was asphyxiated. According to police sources, the lid is to be opened only when the tank is full. _ Special Correspondent
