Somesh passes away

BANGALORE: Former India under-21 footballer Megaraj Somesh expired at his residence this morning after a massive heart attack. Somesh, 39, represented India in the Rajiv Gandhi under-21 tournament in Jamshedpur in 1992.

A renowned stopper-back, who donned the State colours in the Santosh Trophy for five seasons,

Somesh was employed with ITI before taking his VRS in 2004. Somesh also played for East Bengal one season.

Somesh had his right leg (below knee) amputated after an accident four years ago and is survived by his parents, wife Nancy, son Sharan (14) and footballing-daughter Mashuka (13). Mashuka, in fact, captained the India under-14 girls football team to Vietnam.
