Yeshwantpur-Lucknow weekly express flagged off Chief Minister has sent proposals for new projects to the Railway Ministry
Providing connectivity: Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa, the former Minister Shobha Karandlaje and D.B. Chandre Gowda, MP, at a function to flag off the Yeshwantpur-Lucknow weekly express in Bangalore on Wednesday. BANGALORE: Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa on Wednesday said Karnataka’s proposals for new railway projects, including those under public-private partnership, would be positively considered in the coming Railway Budget. Speaking to presspersons after flagging off the Yeshwantpur-Lucknow weekly express here, Mr. Munipayya said he would try his best to do justice to Karnataka’s railway demands in the budget. The Chief Minister had sent a set of proposals for new projects, including some under PPP, to the Ministry and they were under active consideration, he said. Mr. Muniyappa said except two new trains/ extension of trains, all new train proposals made for Karnataka in the 2009-10 Railway Budget had been fulfilled. Introduction of Bangalore- Nizamuddin Rajdhani and extension of Mumbai- Karwar tri-weekly express to Mangalore will be done before the 2010-2011 budget is presented, he said. To speed up doubling of the Bangalore-Mysore line, the South Western Railway has started construction of bridges between Ramanagara and Mysore. “Completion of these bridges will require two years and by then doubling of the track will also be completed,” he said. Speaking earlier, Bangalore North Lok Sabha Member D.B. Chandre Gowda congratulated the Minister for his initiatives towards the people of Karnataka. He urged Mr. Muniyappa to frame a time-bound programme to complete the doubling of the Bangalore-Mysore line since Bangalore had become overcrowded. He urged the Minister to ensure adequate allocation of funds for various railway projects in the State in the budget. Bangalore Central Lok Sabha Member P.C. Mohan, MLAs of Yeshwanthpur and Malleswaram Shobha Karandlaje and C.N. Ashwathanarayana, besides Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao and Divisional Railway Manager Akhil Agarwal were present. Train No. 6503 Yeshwanthpur-Lucknow weekly express leaves Yeshwanthpur at 11.15 a.m. on Wednesdays to arrive at Lucknow at 10.45 a.m. on Fridays. It will run via Bangarpet, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Renigunta, Vijayawada, Balharshah, Nagpur, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Manikpur, Allahabad, Pratapgarh, Amethi and Rae Bareli. In the return direction, the train (6504) leaves Lucknow on 8 p.m. on Fridays to reach Yeshwanthpur at 8.10 p.m. on Sundays.
