Child reporters visit schools

KORAPUT: “There is no reason why children with special needs should not be taught along with us in our regular schools,” said Lingaraj Goudo, a child reporter from Randhapali UP School in Jeypore block of Koraput district on Wednesday. He was one among the team of 12 child reporters from Jeypore block who were on a visit to the schools and other institutions here. Children had a different perception on the capabilities of the visually-challenged children. But the visit had brought about changes in their perception, Lingaraj said.

These children have played at national level bringing pride for the district and possess many talents like singing, playing musical instruments that many normal children dream of. Normal children would be benefited by having these children amid them rather than meeting them at some special schools. While the children in the school for the blind were using special tools to learn that could be made available even in the schools where normal children study. Teachers trained on the skills required for their education could also be appointed in all the schools, Sibani Bagh, a child reporter from Nodal UP School, Ambaguda felt. “They are even better informed in some sectors of knowledge than us,” admits Debasis Goudo, another child reporter.
