Big win for East Bengal
Kolkata: East Bengal struck form with an all-round performance and thumped Peerless AC 5-0 in their Premier division match of Sahara Calcutta Football League here on Wednesday.
Medio Harmonjot Khabra started the goal glut in the 19th minute when he headed home a Sanju Pradjhan centre.
Despite conceding the early goal, Peerless defenders never lost heart and put up a spirited fight to keep East Bengal attackers at bay till the 76th minute when Budhiram scored through a smart header off an Alvito D’Cunha free-kick.
Striker Abel Hamond made it 3-0 with a powerful shot from just outside the penalty box in the 80th minute and then D’Cunha swelled the tally further six minutes later. Poibong Posana rounded off the tally a minute before the final whistle.
With this victory East Bengal rose to the third position in the league table with 17 points from eight matches, under leader Mohun Bagan and Chirag United. Peerless now has nine points from 11 outings. — PTI
