Anupama stars for Kerala
KOCHI: Anupama pumped in eight goals as women’s defending champion Kerala crushed Goa 28-8 in the South Zone senior handball championship which began at the Panampilly Nagar Sports Academy Ground here on Wednesday.
Kerala men also opened their campaign with an easy 28-3 victory over Pondicherry while Karnataka thrashed Goa 25-8.
In the women’s section, Tamil Nadu brushed aside Karnataka 10-3.
B. Rajan, the Vice President of the Handball Federation of India, inaugurated the three-day championship.
The results (league):
Men: Kerala 28 (Justin 5 goals, Napolean 4) bt Pondicherry 3; Karnataka 25 (Greenidge 5, Shanker Rao 3) bt Goa 8.
Women: Kerala 28 (Anupama 8, Shalini 4) bt Goa 8; Tamil Nadu 10 (Malathi 5, Devipriya 3) bt Karnataka 3. — Principal Correspondent
