Paes salutes a true hero
Mumbai: “I salute Terry Fox and the Terry Fox Foundation (TFF) for making a big difference to the society in the last 30 years,” said Leander Paes at the launch of the 12th Terry Fox Run to be held here on Sunday, February 14. The Canada-based TFF has raised over $500 million for cancer research — $65 million from outside Canada.
The Mumbai Terry Fox Run was the second largest in the World with over 7,000 taking part in last year’s event.
Terry Fox was 18 when he was diagnosed with bone cancer. With a prosthetic leg, he began the ‘Marathon of Hope’ run that stretched over 143 days. He died a month before his 23rd birthday.
“We have 34 countries that are doing the Terry Fox Run. It’s quite amazing that Terry, 30 years ago, did his ‘Marathon of Hope’ and captured the hearts of a nation and now has captured the hearts of people all over the world.” — Special Correspondent
