Education will get priority: Namoshi

38 Kasturba schools, 114 Kittur Rani Channamma schools to be set up


DAVANGERE: Education will be given top priority in 2010-11, chairman of the High-Powered Committee for Implementation of the Recommendation of the D.M. Nanjundappa Committee, Shashil G. Namoshi, has said. As many as 39 Kasturba schools would be set up in as many taluks in the State, he added.

Speaking to presspersons at Honnali on Wednesday, after reviewing several public projects, Mr. Namoshi said that 114 Kittur Rani Channamma schools would be set up in 114 backward and most backward taluks in the State. The objective was to provide education to girls belonging to the backward classes.

Education would empower them and help in leading a better life, he said. Mr. Namoshi said the Government had earmarked Rs. 87.29 crore for t2009-10 for the district as per the recommendations of the commission, of which Rs. 57.25 crore had been released so far.

The funds had been used to initiate several public works in the backward areas, he said.

Mr. Namoshi urged that the Bombay-Karnataka region be given better representation in the Cabinet.

Later, he held a meeting with MLAs, members of the Davangere Zilla Panchayat members and senior officials.
