TD Telangana MLAs weigh two options for budget session

HYDERABAD: TDP MLAs from Telangana are weighing two options—whether to abstain from the budget session of the Assembly or to attend and stall the proceedings to press their demand for separate Telangana.

TDP senior MLAs N. Janardhan Reddy and R. Prakash Reddy told reporters that the party would take a decision on the issue in consultation with the Telangana Joint Action Committee which was expected to meet on Thursday.

Mr. Prakash Reddy said much would depend on the terms of reference of the Justice B.N. Srikrishna Committee constituted by the Centre. The TDP would prefer to attend the proceedings and raise Telangana-related issues if there was clarity in terms of reference.

Dr. Janardhan Reddy criticised the Centre for the inordinate delay in announcement of the terms of reference of the committee and demanded that the panel be given a time-bound programme. Replying to queries, he said formation of Telangana was top priority for the Telangana TDP legislators than their continuance in the posts.

Dr. Janardhan Reddy demanded that the government order an inquiry into allegations of corruption against government advisor K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao.

‘Bring out facts’

Former Minister S. Chandramohan Reddy demanded that steps be initiated to bring out the facts pertaining to Dr. Rao’s alleged business deals in Dubai. Alleging that the Congress MP received kickbacks in various projects pertaining to Jalayagnam and road construction works, he said though AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were aware of Dr. Rao’s dealings, they had not initiated any action so far.
