HYDERABAD: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Wednesday said if everyone could extend a helping hand to suffering persons, it would pave the way for a better, peaceful and happier society.

He was speaking in the presence of Opposition Leader and Managing Trustee of the NTR Memorial Trust N. Chandrababu Naidu and his wife N. Bhuvaneswari, also a trustee, after giving away the NTR Memorial awards to those who had upheld ‘Telugu self-prestige’ and reached out to the 2009 floods victims. They included six police officers.

Mr. Narasimham started his speech with Thyagaraya keertana ‘Endaro mahaanu bhavulu …’and repeated the lyric of the famous song from ‘Sankarabharanam’ ‘Dorakuna ituvanti seva …’ to convey his privilege in being invited to give away the awards.

Mr. Naidu said that service to people would give the ultimate satisfaction to voluntary workers, apart from assisting the suffering people.

Former Governor V.S. Rama Devi, former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court A. Lakshman Rao and others spoke.

The award-winners for fostering ‘Telugu self-prestige’ included Mr. Lakshman Rao, K. Nageswara Reddy of the Asian Institute of Gastro-Enterology, fitness trainer Dinaz Vervatwala, lyricist Suddala Ashok Teja and badminton ace Saina Nehwal.
