GHMC asked by Bench to file counter affidavit

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court comprising Justice G. Raghu Ram and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan on Wednesday stayed the collection of green cess on advertisement hoardings in Hyderabad and enhanced advertisement tax on unipole boards.

The Bench was dealing with a writ petition filed by Uniads and others. They complained that the green cess as well as the enhancement was not authorised by law. The Bench directed the petitioners to pay the arrears in two instalments. The GHMC was asked by the Bench to file counter affidavit.

Jatara allowed

Justice T. Gopalakrishna of the High Court on Wednesday directed the authorities to permit the Telangana Jatara at Nizam College grounds but made it clear that it will have only stalls, etc but no meetings will be allowed.

The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Yuva Telangana of J. Balakrishna Reddy. The petitioner said that the exhibition has stalls about the culture of Telangana and the police should not have any objection. The jatara will be held for three days and will start by 5 p.m. and end by 10 p.m.
