HYDERABAD: In two thefts committed almost simultaneously, offenders made off with Rs. 3.65 lakh from two two-wheelers of two elderly persons in Alwal on Wednesday. M. Sanjeeva Naidu, 65, of Reddy Enclave and Shyamala Krishna Reddy, 56, of Kowkur, went to the local Corporation Bank on a Hero Honda bike and a Chetak, respectively. Both work for a private finance firm. While Mr. Naidu kept Rs 3 lakh in the box beneath the vehicle’s seat, Mr. Reddy put Rs. 65,000 in the front box of his scooter. They initially wanted to deposit the money in the bank but dropped the idea and started for their houses. Mr. Naidu stopped near Sree Bakery, went inside a bangle store, spoke to its owner for a minute and returned to his vehicle. Hangs key on vehicle“I hung the key on the vehicle. On return, the key disappeared. So I pushed the two-wheeler to my house which was nearby,” he told the police. After reaching home, he opened the vehicle’s seat only to realise that the money kept inside was stolen. Meanwhile, Mr. Reddy stopped by at a meat shop, a couple of hundred yards away from Sree Bakery, spoke to a person in the adjacent shop and returned to his vehicle. By then, the offenders broke open the scooter’s front box and took away the money. The Alwal police suspect that members of a gang could be behind the two thefts.
