“My commentary on Kural reflects Thiruvalluvar’s thinking”

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday said his commentary on Thirukkural reflected the line of thinking of saint poet Thiruvalluvar.

Terming his work as ideology neutral, Mr. Karunanidhi said he, in his work “kuraloviam,” did not seek to push through the atheist point of view or neglect the sentiments of theists. He had just gone back in time and captured the message of Thiruvalluvar as spelt out by the saint poet.

Mr. Karunanidhi was addressing a function held by the Ulaga Thirukkural Peravai (World Academy for Thirukkural) after receiving the award instituted by the organisation and named after Thirukkural. He said the award would act as a stimulus for getting the commentary translated in different languages. Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigal, president of the Peravai, said his organisation, apart from propagating the greatness of Thirukkural, was engaged in social service. P.R. Gokulakrishnan, former Gujarat High Court Chief Justice, said Mr. Karunanidhi was responsible for the construction of Valluvar Kottam in Chennai and installation of Thiruvalluvar statue in Kanyakumari.
