Murder of democracy, says Ranil Wickremesinghe

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The former Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, on Wednesday termed the arrest of General (retired) Sarath Fonseka murder of democracy.

‘Unacceptable’

Mr. Wickremesinghe, who arrived here by a scheduled aircraft from New Delhi and on his way to Colombo, said: “I have already condemned the arrest of Gen. Fonseka.” No one would accept President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s act, Mr. Wickremesinghe said, adding that the government should conduct a proper probe, and if Gen. Fonseka was found guilty, he should be proceeded against as per law.
