10 students killed in hostel fire

GUWAHATI: Ten students of a school at Palin in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh were killed in a fire that broke out in a private hostel on Wednesday. Four sustained severe burns.

Apang Tamut, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu on the phone that nine of the children were identified. The fire broke out in the hostel — a bamboo and hay structure — at 8.30 p.m.

The local MLA, Takam Tagar, said 64 students of the school were staying in the hostel, which was opened two years ago.
