Haridwar IED mystery solved
Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN: The police claim to have solved the mystery behind the improvised explosive device found at Haridwar railway station on February 2 with the arrest of two employees of a local company.
According to Inspector-General of Police (Garhwal) M. A. Ganapathy, the resume of a girl working in the same company found in the bag containing the IED led to the arrests. The girl was found to be innocent.
About 1,500 gm of nitrate-based material found in the explosive was recovered from the residential premises of these persons. They hail from Sonpur district of Orissa. Interrogation is under way to ascertain their motive and the Orissa Police have been contacted, he said.
The issue becomes all the more serious in view of the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Haridwar and a series of threats received from terror groups. A suspected Pakistan-based ISI/Lashkar operative, Ashraf, was nabbed recently in the Roorkee area allegedly carrying various identity proofs including a driving licence issued in Ghaziabad.
