Load workers stage demonstration
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: The load workers who operate bullock carts, affiliated to Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged a demonstration in front of the Corporation office here on Friday in protest against the recent police order banning the movement of bullock carts within the city limits.
The police issued the direction after it was found that slow movement of bullock carts along the already congested city roads were affecting free flow of traffic.
Demand
However, the workers demanded that the order should be called back as such restrictions had a cascading effect on their livelihood opportunities.
Till the ban came into effect, about 100 bullock carts had been in operation transporting various raw materials for textile units and essential commodities like vegetables and pulses.
Consultation
Police sources said the administration had started working out alternatives in consultation with the office of Regional Transport Officer to ensure that the bullock carts could still deliver the goods to the clients without blocking the traffic in the main city area.
