Skillful: School students showcased talents on Friday at the drawing and animation competitions, organised in Erode district as part of the World Tamil Internet Conference.

ERODE: Mahakavi Bharathiar, Tiruvalluvar and Bharathidasan came alive at the painting and animation competitions conducted here.

Famous lines from their works also reverberated the competition venue, as participants came up with pictures and animated works based on those.

Tamil conference

The occasion was the Kanini Tamil Varaikalai Potti (computer Tamil art competition), organised as part of the World Tamil Internet Conference, at Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, on Friday.

Theme

Students of Plus One and Plus Two based their works on Tirukural, Pazhamozhi (adage) and Aathichudi and those from classes VI to X chose one of the three: Bharathiar songs, Bharathidasan songs and Kalaignar’s ‘Sanga Tamil’.

In the allotted time of 45 minutes for students up to Class X and one hour for those from higher secondary, the students came up with pictorial representation of ilamaiyil kal, Tiruvalluvar’s Agara muthala, pala naal thirudan oru naal, etc.

Even students who could not distinguish Tamil alphabets took part in the event and were assisted by those present.

A few others struggled with the font the organisers provided and committed spelling mistakes.

Result

The students’ art works will be sent to Chennai, where the winners will be decided.

In the individual event in classes VI to X category, 48 students participated and in the team event (two students make a team), 25 took part.

Likewise, 29 higher secondary students took part in the individual event and 48 (24 teams) in team event.

District Collector R. Sudalaikannan and Revenue Division Officer, Erode, Benjamin and senior officials visited the competition venue.
