THANJAVUR: A total of 183 students participated in the computer skills competition for school students for the Tamil Internet Conference organised in connection with World Classical Tamil Conference to be held at Coimbatore in June at Periyar Maniammai University here on Friday. V.Kumar, Chief Educational Officer, Thanjavur district, inaugurated the competitions. N.Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor of the University, later told presspersons that competitions have been organised in two sections: one for students from sixth to tenth standards and another for students of plus one and plus two. The first section of students have to draw using software any one scene from Tirukkural while the second section have to either in animation or software create a scene from Bharathiyar, Bharathidasan songs or Kalaignar’s Sanga Thamizh. Besides these 183 students who participated individually, 33 students participated in groups. Kumar said that Government school students could also take part in the competition as the Government has provided computers in schools also. “World Classical Tamil Conference has given a chance to school students to exhibit their computer skills,” Ramachandran said. The competition was jointly organised by Department of Information Technology and School of Computing Science and Engineering, Periyar Maniammai University. Thiruchelvi, Head of the department of Computer Science, was present.
