Stay granted on operation of conditional bail
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Friday granted stay for a week of the operation of an order of conditional bail granted to one G. Karuna, a police constable of Nandambakkam police station, cited as an accused in the case relating to the murder of Vijayakumar, a relative of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, in June 2008. Justice R. Regupathi passed the order on a petition by Sudha Vijayakumar of Ramapuram here seeking to cancel the bail for Karuna. He ordered issue of notice to the respondents.
Ms. Sudha Vijayakumar submitted that since Karuna was the brain behind it, he would misuse his position and mislead investigation, if he was enlarged on bail. The accused had suppressed the fact that the Supreme Court had dismissed his bail petition in September last year.
