Special education: Tiruchi college signs MoU with institution in China

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The Department of Rehabilitation Science, Holy Cross College, and the Nanjing Technical College of Special Education, China, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday to strengthen and promote cooperation in the areas of special education, academic research and culture communication, and develop mutually beneficial projects between students, faculty members, and departments.

Vice-Chancellor of Nanjing Technical College of Special Education Xie Ming and Principal of Holy Cross College Rev. R. Sarguna exchanged MoU documents in the presence of the Director, Institute of Rehabilitation Science and Special Education, Holy Cross College, and Associate Professor and Head, Department of Rehabilitation Science, Sheila Christopher.

The department — established in 1983 to fill the void of rehabilitation professionals by a triangular partnership of the Christoffel Blindenmission, the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod and Bharathidasan University — deems the MoU a historic milestone in its pursuit to internationalise its initiatives.

The MoU paves way for utilisation of the expertise of professionals and researchers from both institutions by mutual exchange of faculty members in order to strengthen research initiatives with resources from both institutions; to obtain assistance in identifying and utilising resources such as therapy materials, books, audio-visual equipment, ICT-equipment and other resource materials in the area of disability and rehabilitation; to hold joint academic conference, seminar and discussion, and to conduct international short-training programmes.
