Avadhara mahotsav celebrated

KUMBAKONAM: The 75th avadhara mahotsav of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt was celebrated at Sri Sankara Mutt here recently.
Vedic teachers and students were given sahasra bhojana on the occasion, said a Mutt press release issued here on Wednesday. Seventy five couples took part in Thambathi Puja. Exponents in various fields were also honoured.
Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal was taken in a procession accompanied by Kerala percussion, Kolattam, Mayilattam, Karahattam, horse dance and folk dance.
Recital of Vedas and Tamil texts formed part of the procession. Puspanjali was performed to Swamigal after the procession.
Religious discourse by Naga Mukundan and Nama Samkeerthan by Udayalur Kalyanaraman followed Pushpanjali.
G. Rangaswamy Moopanar, President of Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha, T. Thiruvaukarasu of Arasu Educational Institutions, S. Balasubramanian, Managing Director of City Union Bank Limited, and Rama Subban of Shankara Bhaktha Samajam participated in the function.
