Cold tightens its grip in Kashmir

NEW DELHI: The cold wave tightened its grip over Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday after two days of relief while higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh reeled under intense chill even as minimum temperatures rose across Punjab and Haryana.

Pahalgam in Kashmir was the coldest place in the valley with the minimum temperature falling to minus 3.4 degrees Celsius against minus 2.3 on Friday. Srinagar recorded a low of 0.2.

In Jammu, where the mercury had been rising in the past few days, the temperature fell a few notches.

The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh experienced intense cold conditions due to chill winds. Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti district, was the coldest place in the hill State with night temperature falling to minus 9.7 degrees following heavy snow.

Shimla, the Queen of Hills, had a sunny day and the daytime temperature was 13.6 degrees. - PTI
