Quiz held

The Coimbatore Custom House and Steamer Agents Association organised a quiz recently to create awareness on shipping, customs and Director General of Foreign Trade issues. The quiz was for those who dealt with documents related to these areas in the daily activities. The team of Ranganathan, Appraiser, Customs Policy, won the quiz. Members from Coimbatore and Tirupur participated.

Branch opened

Punjab National Bank has opened a Mid Corporate branch that will cater to the needs of Corporates and high-value clients.

Chairman of Bannari Amman Group of Companies S.V. Balasubramaniam inaugurated the branch. According to S.M. Veerappan, Deputy General Manager and Circle Head of the bank, this was the first Mid Corporate branch of the bank in the State.

It will handle loan proposals of Rs. 5 crore and above.

The branch currently has exposure in sugar, textiles, steel, cement and real estate sectors.

It will focus on engineering goods, educational institutions, hotel, infrastructure and health care.

The branch will do techno economic viability study of the units.

Plea

The SITRA Employees Union has appealed to Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran to increase the annual allocation to textile research associations in the country.

In a memorandum submitted to the Minister recently, H. Balasubramanian, Secretary of the Union, said the associations were earlier receiving Rs. 2.5 crore a year and this had come down to Rs. 72 lakh. The salary levels in the associations were less than the Fifth Pay Commission, he said.
