Several interesting rituals are and religious practices are associated with Sri Vekkali Amman Temple at Woraiyur in Tiruchi.
At one corner of the temple, devotees can be seen tying a piece of paper in which they write their prayer toSri Vekkali Amman.
It is believed that the Holy Mother fulfils Her devotees' prayer immediately. The prayer should be written in a piece ofpaper available at the counter of the temple.
The important festivals associated with the temple are: ‘Chithirai Tiruvizha' falling on the first day in the month of Chithrai in Tamil almanac; Mambazha Abhishekam falling on the last Friday in Vaikasi month;Sada Chandi Homam and Maha Abhishekam in Avani; Eka dina Laksharchanai in Masi month; the 'Poochorithal' in the first Fridayin Panguni month.
Every Full Moon Day, every abhishekam: The special abishekam is performed to Sri Vekkali Amman on every Full Moon day. The following is the list of the abishekams performed on the Full Moon daysin the Tamilmonth mentioned within brackets: Thaen abhishekam (Thai); Kratha kambalam (Masi);Curd (Panguni); Maruvu (Chithrai); Sandanam, kum kum, camphorand Panneer (Vaikasi); Maa, Pala and Vazhai (Ani); milk (Adi); Gingelly and jaggery (Avani); Appam (Purattasi); Annam (Aippasi); Deepam (Karthigai); andghee (Margazhi).
