BHUBANESWAR: ‘Sunrise in the East' – a week-long exhibition of paintings by 20 artists from different parts of the country got under way at Lalit Kala Akademi's regional centre in Kharavela Nagar here on Tuesday. City-based art promotion organisation ‘Wishbrush' is organising the show. “We aim at creating a platform in Bhubaneswar through which artists – both renowned and the upcoming – would showcase their works and would be able to interact with the audience, buyers and fellow artists as well. We wish the city to grow as a major centre of art activity in eastern India,” said Sambit Mohanty of the host organization. For the first time, the works of internationally acclaimed artist Jogen Choudhury (from Shantiniketan) have been exhibited in the city, said Manas Jena, participating artist. The works of other veteran artists include Jai Zharotia (Delhi), S. Pranam Singh (Banaras), Yusuf (Bhopal) and Manas Roy (Holand), he added. The show further features works of V. Nagdas (Khairagarh), Jagadish Kanungo, Byomakesh Mohanty, Gouranga Bariki, Kabita Patnaik and Raghunath (all from Orissa); Sudhansu Bandopadhyay, Dripta Roy and Malaya Das (all from Kolkata); Tapan Dash, Anup Chand, Kishore Roy, Pradosh Swain and Nivedita (from New Delhi). An interactive session was held between the artists and visitors during the inaugural evening.
