‘Clear hurdles in giving patta to tribals’

Resolution passed at State committee meeting held in Harur

HARUR: State government should take the initiative to lift the ban order of the High Court against issuance of patta to tribals and the Government Order 1168 banning issuance of patta in hill areas in the state, said the State Committee of the Tamil Nadu Tribals Welfare Association.

A resolution in this regard was passed at its State committee meeting held in Harur on Tuesday.

The resolution said the government should ensure the rights of tribals according to the Forest Rights Act.

The association would participate in the state-wide demonstrations planned on March by the Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam in front of tahsildhar offices demanding the government to implement the Forest Rights Act, issuance of patta to land under the cultivation of farmers for generations.

ST certificates

Revenue officials are refusing to give Scheduled Tribes certificates to Kurumbans, Kattunayakkans, Malaivedan, Kondareddy tribes in various districts in the state.

Tirupatthur RDO in Vellore district ordered to give the certificates to 21 Kurumban community people after an inquiry.

At the same time, Revenue Divisional Officer in Sivakasi refused to give the certificates to 15 persons belongs to Kattunayakkan community. In Chennai, various communities coming under the Scheduled Tribes category are denied community certificates. Because of to this, students passing SSLC and Plus-Two are unable to pursue higher studies.

State government should intervene and solve the problem immediately.

Attack on crops and human beings by wild animals have become the order of the day. Effective steps should be taken to prevent wild animals from straying into the human habitations adjoining reserve forests.

The association demanded a ban on genetically modified seeds.

New office-bearers

P. Shanmugam was elected State president. The other office-bearers are: S. Palanisamy ( general secretary), A. Ponnusamy and Annamalai (deputy secretaries).
