TUMKUR: The Tumkur Police on Thursday arrested four persons in the Airtel tower theft case and recovered special batteries that were stolen from the tower. They also seized a car that was used by the culprits. Superintendent of Police Harsha P.S. said in a release, that an executive in charge of the Airtel and Vodafone towers in the State had lodged a complaint with the Kyatsandra Police Station stating that special variety batteries were stolen from the AirTel tower in Shivaramakaranta Nagar in Tumkur city on January 20. Mr. Harsha said a special police squad was constituted to arrest the culprits. The squad succeeded in arresting Kantaraj, Bhaskar, Ravi and Palani (all from Bangalore) and recovered the stolen goods from them. At largeThe SP said two others — Srinivas of Chickthotlukere, near here and Chinna Swamy of Bangalore — are also suspected to be part of the gang. “We are on a hunt for them,” he added. Mr. Harsha praised the police team for their work. SecuritySources said that the Government has asked private mobile operators to make their own arrangements for security of their respective towers in different parts of the State, in addition to the general security provided by the State police. Tumkur Police, however, did not confirm this move by the Government.
