MADURAI: It is 62 years since India became independent but still Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis, other minorities and backward classes have been sidelined from the nation’s development, according to A. S. Ismail, State vice-president, Popular Front of India (PFI). Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Ismail said that to protect the nation and its people from these miserable conditions, PFI believed in the ideology that every community had to fight for its share and use its resources to progress. In an effort to awaken and liberate the oppressed sections such as Muslims, Dalits Adivasis, and other minorities, PFI would organise a two-day ‘Social Awakening Conference’ here on Saturday and Sunday. “The slogan of the conference is ‘Let Us Join Together to Reign Power,’” he said. Mr. Ismail also said that a charter of demands titled ‘Madurai Declaration’ would be released on the occasion. The conference will also feature seminars.
