NEW DELHI: Four businessmen have been arrested in Prasad Nagar here for allegedly running a human trafficking racket.

The police said Ajay Kumar (38), Sumit Kumar (44), Chinmay Chauhan (44) and Virendra (46) used to procure visas to European countries on forged Indian passports, allegedly charging Rs.4 lakh to 5 lakh for each visa.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap on Ravi Dass Marg on Wednesday evening and arrested the four accused when they allegedly came to exchange forged passports and other documents.

The police claim to have recovered 38 forged passports, two laptops, 19 stamps and several visa applications.

The police said most of the gang’s clients were those who had earlier been denied visa to European countries and a refusal stamp was affixed on their passport.

Virendra earlier ran an export business in South Extension. He suffered heavy losses in business and allegedly took to human trafficking to make easy money. He is resident of neighbouring Faridabad. Ajay of Vasant Kunj runs a tour and travels business. Sumit, who was not doing well in business, joined the gang to boost his income. He is a resident of Sukhdev Vihar. Chinmay, a resident of Rajendra Nagar, exports garments, cosmetics, jewellery and purses.
