IGI is world’s fourth best airport

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi International Airport here has been ranked the fourth best airport in the world at the Airport Council International’s Annual Airport Service Quality Awards. It received the ranking among airports in the 15-25 million passenger traffic per year category.

The IGI Airport has also been chosen as the “Best Improved Airport” in the Asia-Pacific Region by the ACI which has 575 members operating over 1,633 airports in 179 countries and territories.

The awards will be formally presented on May 13 at the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Conference and Exhibition to be held in Hainan, China.

The ASQ awards rank top performing airports in the annual ACI Airport Service Quality passenger survey. The ASQ is designed to help participating airports measure their improvement on a yearly basis as well as to benchmark against their peers worldwide, within their region and in the same size category.

The ASQ is reportedly used by many airports as one of the key performance indicators of airport services.

The airports were rated on 34 parameters under 10 broad categories, some of which were directly or indirectly attributable to a host of other agencies at the airport, including key regulatory and facilitating agencies like Customs, Immigration, Central Industrial Security Forces, airlines and ground handlers.

Some of the categories include the ambience of the airport, cleanliness of the terminal and washrooms, comfort of the waiting areas, availability of washrooms, courtesy and helpfulness of airport staff, business lounges, ease of making connections, passport/identification inspection experience and shopping facilities.
