Subrata Roy says no to offer

NEW DELHI: Subrata Roy, Chairman of the Sahara India Pariwar, on Thursday refused to accept the responsibility of leading Hockey India (HI).

At a function organised in honour of the National hockey team and the silver medal winning side in the South Asian Games, the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Suresh Kalmadi, requested Mr. Roy to take over as the president of HI.

“I am trying to persuade him (Mr. Roy) to be the president of HI. We need you sir, you come forward and lead the team,” Mr. Kalmadi requested, adding “it is up to everybody to convince him to take up the responsibility.”

In his response, Mr. Roy politely turned down the offer. “I do not need any status authority because I cannot do justice to it.”
