A chance for good drivers to win a car

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Can a nationwide search for young driving talent double up as an initiative to create better awareness on road safety?

Young Driver 2010 is an initiative that attempts to use a competitive platform to spread the word about safe driving and traffic etiquette.

Organised by Maruti Suzuki and Autocar India, the nationwide search is open to anybody with a driving licence (aged between 18 and 30), tests participants' knowledge of traffic rules and awareness of road safety and driving skills.

The participants must register themselves (by logging on to www.youngdriver.in) and take a quiz before February 25 and attempt an Online Theory Test in the form of a quiz before February 25.

‘Simulator' tests

The second stage comprises “Simulator” tests, slated to be conducted from March 1 to 13 at the 26 Maruti driving schools across the country.

Thirty shortlisted participants will then qualify for the grand finale that will be held at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR), New Delhi.

The drivers will be evaluated on parameters like smoothness, vehicle control and presence of mind during emergency situations.

The winner of the contest will take home a shiny new car and will be declared as the brand ambassador for safe driving and will represent the organisers at several events.
