BANGALORE: Young melody makers are making waves this weekend in Bangalore with the Nadasurabhi's Youth Festival off to a flying start.

The festival, on till February 21, is aimed at encouraging young talent and propagating classical genres and has on its agenda three vocal concerts, a violin concert and a bharatanatya performance.

As Harini Raghavan of Nadasurabhi put it: “We want to present the upcoming generation in a better perspective; so Nadasurabhi organises youth concerts every February. Our showcase of classical music and dance is a veritable talent pool because of our prior strict selection procedures. The best perform at the Sabha's monthly concerts.” This year's performers are students of star musicians and dancers. They are S. Aishwarya (great-granddaughter of M.S. Subbulakshmi), Lavanya (disciple of T.S. Satyavathi), Srinidhi Kaushik (disciple of R.K. Padmanabha), violin by Apoorva Krishna (disciple of Lalgudi Srimathi Bramhanandam and Anuradha Sridhar) and bharatanatya by disciples of Sumitra Nitin. The Indian Heritage Academy Hall, Koramangala 6th Block is the venue. Call 9880964283 or visit http://nadasurabhi.org
