‘I committed a crime by according approval to the BMIC project’ Now I am forced to launch an agitation, says Deve Gowda SHIMOGA: President of the Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Deve Gowda said on Friday that the Government was acquiring agricultural land from farmers forcibly by taking their signatures on blank papers. “Under this situation, farmers even cannot think of getting loans by pledging their land,” he said. Addressing a party workers’ meeting here, he said that it was true that his Government had brought in amendments to the Land Reforms Act in 1995 when Congress workers were busy selling the message of globalisation. He admitted that he had committed a crime by according approval for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project when he was Chief Minister. “Now I am forced to launch an agitation to correct the infirmities in the pact,” he said. Mr. Gowda alleged that politicians, officers and “cheats” from the NICE company were acquiring land from farmers forcibly. “I am deeply pained by it,” he said. Mr. Gowda said that the people were repenting now for electing an “inefficient and corrupt” BJP Government. “I have not seen such an irresponsible Government in my life,” he added. Party leaders Y.S.V. Datta and P.R. Srinivas, president of the district Janata Dal (Secular) unit M. Srikanth, the former MLC G. Madappa and member of the zilla panchayat Sharada Purya Naik were present.
