Cases were booked against Jagadish Kumar and his father on the charge of harassing women VISAKHAPATNAM: Theatre owner V.B. Chalam alias Rambabu, 74, and his son Jagadish Kumar, 47, filed a bail petition in Chief Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on Friday seeking anticipatory bail to prevent their arrest by the police. Cases were booked by the police against Jagadish Kumar and Chalam on a charge of harassing women under Sections 498 A, 342 and 506 of IPC. Venkata Rani, 22, had lodged a complaint at the Bhimadolu police station in West Godavari district on January 21 this year. Venkata Rani had previously worked at Idea Customer Care Centre in Hyderabad and was residing at a working women’s hostel. Mediators Yesu Nagabushanam and Madhu Babu (owner of a cinema hall at Bhimadolu) arranged her engagement with Jagadish. The marriage was fixed to be held at Annavaram on November 4, 2009. The venue was, however, shifted on the plea of lack of accommodation at Annavaram on that day. The marriage was performed at the house of Jagadish in Visakhapatnam. Venkata Rani stayed at Jagadish’s house till January 6. Her family members came and took her to her parental home in West Godavari. Subsequently, when Venkata Rani phoned him, he didn’t bother to take her home and told her that he was already married. The Bhimadolu police transferred the case to Visakhapatnam on February 16 and it was re-registered at the Two Town police station. Advocate Satyanarayana Murthy moved the bail plea on behalf of the accused. Chief Metropolitan Sessions Judge Bala Tripura Sundari Devi made over the bail plea to the Mahila Court.
