Minister lays new pipeline

In line: Minister for Social Welfare P. Geetha Jeevan inaugurating pipeline laying work in Tuticorin on Friday.

Tuticorin: A new drinking water pipeline was laid by the Minister for Social Welfare, P. Geetha Jeevan, at Levingipuram here on Friday.

It was executed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.70 lakh covering a distance of 1.5 km.

The Minister also inaugurated a fair price shop at Muthukrishnapuram established with MLA’s constituency development fund at a cost of Rs. 3.20 lakh.

A newly established building for an Anganwadi centre was also opened at Sankaranarayanan Park, Toovipuram on an outlay of Rs. 3.5 lakh under the MLA development fund.

Speaking at Muthukrishnapuram, she said that essential commodities were being provided at affordable prices through public distribution system.

Electronic balances were being operated by the fair price shop keepers to ensure quantity.

She also said the development of road infrastructure would be taken up in a phased manner due to the ongoing underground drainage works.

As many as 153 centres had been made functional in the current fiscal, she said after inaugurating the Anganwadi centre.

During the last three years, a total of 108 Anganwadi centres were made operational at a cost of Rs. 2, 66, 78, 000. Mayor R. Kasthuri Thangam, Commissioner of Corporation P. Kubendran, Executive Engineer, S.A. Rajagopalan, Muthusamy, Special Officer (Cooperative), S. Paneervelu, Project Officer, Integrated Child Development Service and councillors Ramakrishnan and Shenbagaselvan were present.
