Saurabh stuns Chatwinder

KOLKATA: Maharashtra's Saurabh Dilip Patil, making it to the main draw as a lucky loser, ousted sixth seeded Chatwinder Singh of Punjab 6-1, 6-4 in the men's singles first round of the SPS Elegant Central Excise–AITA Open grasscourt tennis here on Monday.

In other notable results involving seeds, third-seeded Manoj Kumar Sewa was outplayed by his brother and qualifier Vinod Kumar Sewa while the unseeded local boy Shivraj Singh beat fourth seeded Kunal Anand from Delhi.

Making a comeback after a prolonged break, Nitten Kirrtane of Maharashtra sailed into the second round beating Tamil Nadu's John S. Carino 6-0, 6-1. In the women's section the seeds figuring on the opening day had easy outings.
