Will Railway budget give impetus to MMTS-II ?
Staff Reporter
Hyderabad: Even as the Railway authorities are working hard to present railway budget on Wednesday, the MMTS Travellers Group in twin cities is hoping for allocation of funds for taking up the much-delayed MMTS Phase II in the budget. The MMTS phase II includes Secunderbad–Malkajgiri–Bolarum, Falaknuma–Shamshabad, Lingampally–Shankarpalli / Patancheru and Secunderabad–Ghatkesar routes.
Ever since the MMTS Phase I was introduced in 2003, the patronage has increased considerably from mere 11,000 passengers a day to over 1.50 lakh passengers.
Yet, there has been no considerable allocation of funds for improving MMTS in the past few budgets, pointed out MMTS Travellers Group member K. Vijayaraghavan in a statement here on Monday.
With the emphasis on improving public transport system ever increasing, MMTS trains have played crucial role in decongestion of traffic on city roads besides offering safe and economic mode of transportation.
Besides this, frequency of the existing services can only be increased by adding more rakes and also by having a dedicated track.
