Telugu Desam raps State for neglecting Jalayagnam

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam has accused the State government of neglecting Jalayagnam by making poor budgetary allocation to a programme that it kept praising as its flagship.

Addressing a press conference, TDP leaders, Kadiam Srihari and S. Vengopalachary, said the allocation of Rs. 15,300 crore was grossly inadequate as more than half of it would go into clearance of pending bills. Not much would be left for ongoing projects as about Rs. 4,000 crore was required for land acquisition.

They said the dismal allocation and poor spending once again exposed the government strategy of starting a part of the project works and deserting them midway after paying huge advances to the contractors. There was no priority drawn and all the projects were taken up simultaneously. That was the reason why no project could be completed in the last six years.
