Plans on for promotion of bridge

Chennai: N.R. Kirubakara Moorthy, President, Bridge Federation of India (BFI), and Sherien Ryan, vice-president, BFI, outlined the federation's various initiatives for this year in a press briefing at the Mylapore Club on Sunday.

“Our efforts have primarily been in projecting bridge as a brain game, and not just a card game. It is a game that improves focus, and we want to bring in more youngsters into the game,” said Kirubakara Moorthy.

Major step

Ryan pointed out that a major step had been taken by “including bridge in the World Mind Sports Game, which took place at Beijing.”

“The BFI is looking at selecting youngsters for the National Youth Championship. There are also a couple of international tournaments we are targeting, such as the World Youth Team Championships at Philadelphia in October, and the World University Championships, Taipei, in August.”

The Tamil Nadu Bridge Association, and the Mylapore Club, in their efforts to promote the game, will conduct a tournament for students and beginners on February 27 and 28 at the club premises. The TNBA is also offering training by accredited coaches to 40 students of the Indian Institute of Technology.
