Seeking employment: Members of All India Youth Federation staging a demonstration with locks in Salem on Tuesday asking the Tamil Nadu Government to provide jobs to youth. —

SALEM: Cadres of Salem unit of the All India Youth Federation staged a novel protest in front of the Office of District Employment to urge the Tamil Nadu Government to provide jobs to youths.

The members carrying locks, attempted to close the doors of the office when police intervened and arrested them.

They raised slogans saying that many vacancies in various departments such as anganwadi, integrated nutritious scheme, TASMAC, Civil Supplies Corporation, Transport Corporation etc, could not be filled up without the intervention of ruling party men. They further claimed that Tamil Nadu Government should withdraw the government order that facilitated the recruiting of retired employees and instead youths should be given the posts.

The jobs that were filled up during 2009-2010 should be scrapped and appointments done again through employment offices.

Reservation and seniority in employment offices should be valued.

District Secretary A. Eswaran presided over the agitation in which many women and other leaders also took part.
