HYDERABAD: Several inmates of OU ladies hostel took ill allegedly after consuming food prepared in the Block-II hostel kitchen on Monday night. They were shifted to the hospital and all the students are said to be stable. More than 20 students complained of nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea after consuming food on Monday night and they were immediately shifted to Fever Hospital in Nallakunta. Some of them were discharged after initial treatment. Some more students complained of similar symptoms on Tuesday morning and were shifted by the university officials to the hospital. Officials said 44 students were admitted to the hospital. Vice-Chancellor T. Tirupati Rao visited the hospital where he was gheraoed by some students demanding better facilities at the hostel. Students were angry that unhygienic conditions prevailed at all the hostels. Later, he along with Laxmaiah, Dean, Students Welfare and OU medical officers, inspected the hostel. Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer of Health of GHMC and food inspectors inspected the ladies hostel mess and collected food samples of rice, dal, tamarind, cooking oil, curd and drinking water. They were sent for analysis to the State Food Laboratory at Nacharam. A medical camp was also organised at the hostel.
