MRTS up to St.Thomas Mount by 2012

CHENNAI: The extension of the Mass Rapid Transit System Phase II from Velachery to St.Thomas Mount has been targeted for completion by March 2012, according to Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee. Presenting the railway budget for 2010-11 in Parliament on Wednesday, she said the project was in progress and would be completed by 2012. The Minister also announced that new suburban services on the Chennai Central-Sullurpeta - Chennai Beach section; Chennai Beach - Velachery (MRTS) section; Chennai Beach – Tiruttani - Chennai Beach section; and Chennai Central - Arakkonam section would be introduced in the next financial year.
