Pensioners’ plea on I.T. recovery
Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI: Office-bearers of the Chitoor District unit of the AP State Retired Employees Association, led by their president, V. Jayarama Naidu, on Thursday held a meeting with the Treasury Officer, Tirupati, to discuss the fall out of a recent circular issued by the Director of Treasuries and Accounts Department regarding the income tax to be recovered at source on the monthly pension with effect from the February pension payable in March, 10.
The association leaders cited I.T. exemption up to Rs. 2.4 lakh per annum already available for the pensioners under the ‘Senior Citizens’ tag and said that the very few drawing over and above that would be in any case filing their I.T. Returns directly to the I.T. department showing among others, the interest paid on house building loans, insurance premium. etc. It would be enough if they were asked to file a declaration to that effect, the association leaders said. The Treasury Officer reportedly agreed with the association, according to a press relase.
