The IGC is located on a 101.57-hectare land at Valiyavelicham, 6 km from Koothuparamba. KANNUR: Twelve small and medium entrepreneurs who will start their industrial enterprises at the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation's (KSIDC) Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) at Valiyavelicham, near Koothuparamba, will be issued authorisation papers by Industries Minister Elamaram Karim at a function on February 25. The IGC is located on a 101.57-hectare land at Valiyavelicham, 6 km from Koothuparamba. An extent of 20.23 ha of land of the IGC has been earmarked for starting small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The State government has decided to allot plots ranging from 20 cents to 0.20 ha to 0.40 ha to entrepreneurs to start SMEs that will not cause any environmental pollution. The industrial units that are already operating at the IGC include Rubco Hawai Chappals, Rubco Cycle Tyre and Tubes, N.K.B. Oil Mills, Startread Fibres and Allied Products, Maryan Apparels Pvt. Ltd., and the Apparel Training and Design Centre. Also functioning at the IGC is a multi-storeyed Standard Design Factory having a total 10,000 square metre space. A KSIDC press release here on Wednesday said nearly 1,500 people were being employed at the industrial units at the IGC. The number of workers/employees at the IGC would go up when 12 more SMEs being given the authorisation papers on Thursday open their units, the release said. The apparel park envisaged at the IGC would be set up on 16.18 ha land, the release said. The infrastructure facilities inside the IGC, including two-km long road facility, 11-kV electric line and an effluent treatment plant had already been set up, the release said adding that another 11-kV power line would be functional soon.
