Double murder mystery cracked
Staff Reporter
KARUR: Police here claim to have cracked the mystery behind the murder of two children and arrested three persons, including a Sri Lankan refugee, in connection with the case. The murders took place on May 17, 2007.
The names of the arrested were given as Murali alias Robbery Murali of Thanthonrimalai, Pandi alias Muthupandi of Karur and Kumar alias Tharkolai Kumar. Kumar is a Lankan refugee and inmate of the Rayanur refugee camp here while Pandi is married to a Sri Lankan Tamil girl from the camp.
Police claim that the trio had entered the house of LIC Development Officer S. Karthikeyan at G.R. Nagar, North Gandhigram, here in the hope of looting things but was confronted by his daughter Deepika (7) who tried to shout and raise an alarm. The intruders delivered a fatal blow on the head of the girl. When Ram Prakash (12) came in search of his sister, they inflicted a deep cut injury on his neck and killed him.
The murders shook Karur residents and, pilloried by the public, police mounted sustained efforts to zero in on the culprits. Several special teams were deputed to nab the killers. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, Amalraj lauded the efforts of the special team officers and men and distributed cash rewards. Superintendent of Police R. Dhinakaran and other officers were present.
