Tension over temple demolition
Tirupur: Tension prevailed for a while here as Hindu Munnani cadre opposed the demolition of a temple during an eviction drive carried out by the district administration on Friday.
The problem cropped up when officials started removing the idol kept inside the Sundaramoorthy Vinayagar temple situated along the Tirupur-Palladam Road adjacent to the Old Bus Stand. The Hindu Munnani leaders held talks with Collector C. Samayamoorthy and senior Corporation officials asking them to give time for “properly” shifting the temple to another location. Mr. Samayamoorthy clarified to reporters that the temple was an encroached structure. — Staff Reporter
