Minister inaugurates Dharapuram Highways Division

Tirupur: Minister for State Highways and Minor Ports M.P. Saminathan inaugurated the Dharapuram Highways Division at a function held in Dharapuram on Thursday.
Sub-divisions
Highways Department sources said that the Division, second in Tirupur district, would have five sub-divisions under it.
Of them, Dharapuram, and Mulanur sub-divisions are from Erode Highways Division and Udumalpet from Coimbatore Division.
The other two sub-divisions headquartered at Vellakoil and Madathukulam were newly created.
Highways Department Superintending Engineer M. Rajamani said that maintenance of 1,634 km stretch of roads under the heads of State Highways, Major District Roads, Other District Roads and sugarcane roads, spread over the five sub-divisions, would now be governed by Dharapuram Highways divisional office.
A total of 18 posts including that of one Divisional Engineer and five Assistant Divisional Engineers had been allocated for the new Division. The two Divisions (Tirupur and Dharapuram) together would control State Highways (SH) stretches of 623.876 km, Major District Roads (MDR) of 483.26 km, Other District Roads (ODR) of 1,729.146 km and sugarcane roads of 105.821 km in the district. Collector C. Samayamoorthy was present at the inaugural.
